Becoming A Nook Owner Tonight!

My refurbished Nook I bought for a great deal thanks to a CC’er is on the UPS truck due to deliver today! SO excited!

I have been studying up online - in fact, found a new (another!) guilty pleasure - the Barnes and Noble Nook discussion boards - yikes - addicting!:

[NOOK Apps and NOOKbooks Boards - Barnes & Noble Book Clubs](http://bookclubs.barnesandnoble.com/t5/NOOK-Apps-and-NOOKbooks-Boards/ct-p/eBooks)

Mine will be the Nook wireless version - not color.

First time user tips for a newbie? First steps I should take?

I have already opened a B and N account and “purchased” a couple of free books so that I will have something to download right away. I know I should probably download ADE (adobe digital edition?) to my computer for sideloading library books (I am SO hoping this sideloading business is fairly easy).

I guess I will have to “register” the Nook - will it prompt me to do that when I turn it on??
And I have been told, to be patient and let it fully charge before really using.

I hope to order a case today or maybe stop by Best Buy (our B and N doesn’t seem to have a lot of selection…) to check out theirs. Will need a light for reading in bed - any recommendations???

SO EXCITED!

Let us know if you love it!

I’m still trying to decide between the Kindle and the Nook.

Entered a contest to win a Kindle. Hoping to win  My luck is I would buy one and then be the winner (haha wishful thinking). So, I will wait two more weeks.

I won my Nook in a contest in October. I still haven’t fully mastered it. Our local B&N has a class once a month that I was planning on taking, but each time it was scheduled we had another snow storm. :frowning: I would check and see if your store offers the class. Have fun with it. I love mine! :)

Yes, they do have the classes. I will check them out. It arrived safely (well, tossed on the deck - thank goodness it wasn’t raining and the snow has melted!) and is now charging!

I just got a nook on Friday night. I need some tips, too.
The girl at the B&N desk said she has like 100 books downloaded, and she only paid for two…I looked on the B & N site, but they have a pretty small selection of free ones, so where is she getting all of them?

I know you can borrow from friends (don’t know how, tho) and borrow from the library (ditto)…what else?

Do keep us updated Abasket- love your enthusiasm, you made me smile!

nicksmtmom: Our library also loans books to ereaders. I was in there two weeks ago and asked about it. I haven’t tried it out yet, but am looking forward to it. I know if you do a search on your nook and search for 0.00 it will give all of the free ones. You need to really check though, I got two free which were really only the first 3 chapters of a book. I guess I didn’t really pay attention. I also check out the steals and deals. There are a lot of cheap ones there.

ProudNJMom- doesn’t Nook allow you download free sample chapters of any book ?

It’s here! It’s working! It’s mine!!! :)

Charged it, registered it, logged in and my free books already downloaded. Sweet!

Went out to Best Buy and picked up a case for it. Will make do with my current booklight for now…need to figure out the finger swiping thing…where do you swipe???

(I keep wanting to “touch” the reader screen though- bad habits from my Itouch!)

You swipe on the bar above the touchscreen. I do a little swipe on the right side of the bar, swiping from right to left in a diagonally downward motion. It took some experimenting, but it’s second nature now.

Many of the posters on the nook forums swear by a free program called Calibre (google it). I haven’t used it much, though.

Now, go over to the Oberon Designs website and drool over the covers.

Have fun!

Abasket: I also have a problem with the swiping thing, that’s why I so want to take the class. Have fun tonight!

SouthJersey: You are right about the sample chapters! See, I really haven’t mastered it yet!

Going to check the oberon designs now. :)

Here’s some free books for you. Barnes and Noble is offering these classics free in honor of Presidents Day: [President’s Day Free BN Classics - Barnes & Noble](http://www.barnesandnoble.com/u/BN-American-Classics-eBooks/379002679/)
