Beer Pong

So what are the general beer pong rules for Cornell parties? 6 cup or 10 cup? pull cup or call cup? etc… What the deal with cornell beer pong and what are the other big games on campus?

there’s a lot of variations in the small town i live in. im sure there are many different rules at cornell all over.

At Cornell, beer pong rules vary from house to house. Most of the places where people play beer pong are at frat parties or house parties. Most fraternities have their own ‘house’ rules.

General rules: 10 cup pong, pull cup, 2 re-racks, bounce is 2 cups, if both team members make a cup they both get to shoot again.

Some houses also play: Call an island cup and its 2 cups, NBA Jam rules (heating up, on fire), leave cups that are made until after turn.

Some of the fraternities have really creative rules, off the top of my head I remember my favorite were:

FIJI pong: If you make a cup the other team drinks it and then puts it back where it originally was, except the cup is now empty. If you make the empty cup you have to pull one of your own cuos (aka dont make the empty cups). When you re-rack the empty cups are pulled from the table. Automatic re-racks on 6 cups, 4 cups and 2 cups.

Pi Kappa Alpha (aka Pike) pong: Standard rules except…If the 1st player shooting on the turn makes a cup, it is left with the ball in it, if the 2nd player makes it in the same cup, then 3 cups are pulled. They also play NBA Jam rules and automatic re-racks on 6, 4 and 2 cups. If you forget to re-rack the opponents cups when appropriate, they can swat your shot away when it is your turn. The way these guys play is really fun once you get the hang of it.

Sigma Alpha Epsilon pong: Not my personal favorite, but it can be fun. They play live ball pong with 2 separate racks of cups.

If you want to be able to play beer pong regularly at Cornell i would recommend going to frat open parties during the first 3-4 weeks of school at different frats and just meet brothers. They are always very friendly and many will invite you to closed parties and beer pong tournaments, which are tons of fun!

thanks alot. and what exactly are nba jam rules?

hmm, i usually play 6 cup. but everything else sounds like the same rules as what i’ve played

NBA Jam is when if you make two shots in a row, you say that you are “heating up.” If you make three shots in a row, you say “on fire,” and you keep shooting until you miss. Ah, the good memories from NBA Jam 97 for game boy :).

some places also play with:

death cup - if two balls end up in the same cup, regardless of time (this factor may change), as long as the cup in question still has beer in it, the game is automatically over. ie: opponent shoots it into a cup that you’re holding bc you haven’t finished it yet, you’re too slow to pick up the cup/not paying attention and they both get it in one cup, etc.

naked lap - if you don’t make it to a rerack (6 cups, generally) and you have drank all of your cups, you do a naked lap around the house/property/room.

gentlemans (throw behind the back)/ladies (throw under the leg) - if you get a rebound. if this applies, some places will have stricter rules in that it can’t touch the floor before you get the rebound.
