First, I’m my son’s father.
Second, I had a question about scheduling around the unknown of senior year AP results. This is where I was stating that my son could see his pre-senior AP credits already applied in his account. These are available to see via HokieSpa, btw, if you’ve requested the AP scores from Collegeboard.
Third, I had also asked a question of where to see whether his HS transcript has been received. Doesn’t sound like that confirmation is available on the portal anywhere, so I hope they were received.
My son’s AP credit from Junior year is showing on his unofficial transcript in Hokie Spa. It shows 4 earned hours. His unofficial transcripts also has 5 courses listed as “courses in progress”. He currently has three virtual courses and 2 courses on campus. His orientation is tomorrow and on Tuesday he will receive an email that will lift the “hold” on his account so that he can register for his courses. He is also expecting AP credit from his senior year. He has already sent his advisor what he “expects” to earn on it (preorientation requirement).
In regards to his final transcript, I see that it was received June 19. You can view this information by going to the application status link and clicking on application information then click on the admission term (Fall 2020).
As expected, my son’s transcript on the application information is blank. So, I’ll have to follow-up with admissions and find out if it was received or not. Thanks for this information.
LOL - my son’s unofficial transcript shows him in a class that he’s already received AP credits for. Hopefully his is still a work in progress.
@HokieCrazy same here! I’m thinking those courses were preloaded. He just completed his first day of orientation. Based on an email from his advisor (relevant section copied below), he will officially register later.
“Please check your VT email account on the second day of your registered orientation session for an email with details regarding “Engineering’s Virtual Registration for Courses” process. The email will contain a General Engineering Orientation Guide, as well as worksheets you will be required to submit on Canvas. I will review your submissions and send you one-on-one advising feedback. Upon receiving my feedback, your new student hold will be removed and you will be able to register for Fall 2020 classes on Hokie Spa”.
Just like the experience some I know had with in-person advising in 2018 - have a copy of the transcript in hand so you can scan and email to advising. Those courses are pre-loaded based on data they have on hand at a specific time.
Nothing like a late waitlist pull. My son was accepted to Vanderbilt Engineering, yesterday…at nearly the same time he found out when his room assignment at Tech would be. LOL. Needless to say, he’s still a Hokie!
Ive heard many late waitlist-Stanford, Penn, to name 2. Some of the schools that have strange set ups like Stanford may have gotten students deciding to go somewhere else or taking a gap year
I can tell you that Vanderbilt has been doing a lot of little mini-waves of waitlist pulls recently. Between each one, they request all waitlist people to reconfirm their interest. I think many of these schools are seeing a larger number of deferrals, since a lot of them have modified their rules to be more flexible. Plus, they are not giving as much money as they usually do to students that they are accepting, so many are declining the offer from the waitlist. Interesting times!
As a side note, my son was waitlisted at 4 schools, and has been pulled from 3 of them. Don’t think WashU will end up coming for him, though.
@HokieCrazy There have been so many kids coming off waitlists this year, that you never know about WashU. Good luck! BIL and his wife are both long time tenured professors there. Certainly would be a different college experience than VT. Both great schools but I’m pulling for VT !
