Before starting a "chance me" thread...

<p>Hello all. I am the parent of a prospective student and have always found the “Chance Me” threads to be an interesting phenomenon that I don’t happen to put much stock in. I would never let the collective opinion of people on an anonymous internet forum determine whether you apply to a school or not.</p>

<p>I encourage you all to read the thread linked below —*if we are to believe the accuracy, it provides a picture of just what schools people with various stats/ECs/hooks did and did not get into last year.</p>

<p>The thread sometimes gets pushed to the second or third (or worse) page in the main section of the forum, but I’ve bumped it to the front so more people can check it out.</p>

<p>That thread was a reality check for me. I changed my list up a bit after I read that last yr. I hope my game plan wont leave me disappointed in March.</p>

<p>@maddog15: I got my reality check from other parents of current students who cautioned against the 3 application final list (most felt that was too few) strategy we initially had for our daughter. </p>

<p>While that thread could certainly contain some spurious data, I think it answers a lot of the questions that lead people to post “Chance Me” threads. Again, as they say “your mileage may vary”. If you have your heart set on school and you feel the fit was good based on a visit, interview, and what you are looking for in a BS…then go for it. After all, it’s just a few hours of time invested in writing the essays — and the $50 or so application fee.</p>
