Before/while applying

Perhaps this would be better in the hindsight forum, but whatever

From the beginning of my college application process, I was completely frazzled by the low acceptance rates and seemingly random admissions anecdotes by various posters on CC. I was so sure that all the work I’d put in during high school would be for naught and I’d only be accepted to Georgia State, a semi-selective college, since my parents only allowed me to apply to universities in-state and I wanted to be in Atlanta. Point being, I was going out of my mind for six months over the prospect of rejection from my “dream schools” (ironic, since I’m almost 100% sure that I’ll go to State after all), breaking out and gaining weight over the stress. It was made even worse by the advice I read about essays: avoid risky topics of depression or angst, no one wants to hear about your rich parents, so on and so on. I was sure that even if my “mediocre” stats and extracurriculars didn’t keep me out, my essays would.
Then I ended up being accepted everywhere (granted, only 3) schools I applied to: Georgia Tech, Emory University, and Georgia State’s Honors College with the Presidential Scholarship.
Don’t let the forums faze you out, don’t freak our over where you apply, and don’t get hung up on the idea of some perfect school, because behind the smoke and mirrors, there’s no such thing. A college acceptance can’t make you happy or successful. Everything will work out somehow, just go by your instinct and work in a way that keeps you sane.
Best to all.
