Being a Residential Advisor while a Grad Student

<p>Hello,</p>

<p>The title says it all. I know it is possible to be an RA while being a grad student. Does anyone on this forum have experience with this? If so, how did/do you mange doing your research and being there for your residents? Would you recommend doing this? How did you get your jobs?</p>

<p>While I’m interested in the position because I like student affairs, having housing and food paid for doesn’t hurt.</p>

<p>I’ve had two MA students who were RAs while in my program. Neither finished. The RA demands were too heavy for them to properly focus on their academics. </p>

<p>However, both have gone on to careers in residence life.</p>

<p>I’ve been an RA for three years, and couldn’t imagine doing it for another year especially as a grad student this time.</p>
