When can you start becoming an RA?
Do you have to live in those res halls with the other people?
Most important - does it take care of your room and board fees?

You can be an RA second year.

Yes…you would have to live in the res halls with other people, that’s essentially what an RA is lol.

Yes they pay for your room fees.

thanks a lot!

how well do they lead their social lives? since they are living with ppl they essentially dont really know…

everyone at UCLA is for the most part living with people they essentially don’t know

they make friends like normal people…I’m not sure if you quite understand what an RA is. An RA is just a person that is basically “in charge” of one of the dorm floors, they live just like any other student lives on the dorm floor, but they get a single room and have extra responsibilities like holding floor meetings etc.

Its actually more difficult to have a social life as a RA because there is a set number of hours they are required to be in the dorms. I don’t know how many hours it was specifically but I remember it wasn’t a lot of time after classes. (But to be fair, you could be doing anything during those hours as long as you are available to students.) When it comes down to it, if you’re an RA, a lot of your social life will have to happen on your floor as opposed to say a frat house.

Do u guys happen to know the exact hours as to when they have to be in their dorms? Does that go for weekends too?

If you already have a full scholarship, does UCLA give you less money or do you get to keep all the money you save by not paying for housing?

hi, i’m a current RA and i’ll be completely honest.

from what you’re saying you definitely should not become an RA.

Agreed.
10char

^I second that.

From what I know, the minimum commitment is you are on duty for your building a couple times per week, and you have weekly meetings with other RAs and ORL staff. On top of that is the minimum amount of hours you are in the dorm room and planning floor meetings/events.

finally, a useful post. thank you boelterhall!
