Being connected with a current family during the application phase

Hello all,

My child is applying to BS and at one school in particular the AO seemed very interested in my child and connected us with a current parent. This seems like something schools might do after accepting a student in order to try to get the family to commit to the school, but it seems more unusual to do it during the application phase. We’re already interested and are happy to hear from the current family, but I hesitate to get too invested in case my child doesn’t end up being accepted.

My questions are:

  • Have others been connected with a current parent/family during the application phase? And if so, was your child ultimately accepted?

  • Is this a good sign for us or is this a common practice?

    Thanks!

We applied to seven schools last year. One school had a current parent reach out to us during the application phase, and I believe it is a common practice there. I really appreciated it and felt like it was a useful connection to the parent community. (My kid was accepted and now attends the school.) I don’t think you can read into it as a sign on an admissions decision, although I totally understand the impulse to do so! Good luck!

I work in admissions at a boarding school and we regularly connect prospective families with current families.

Thanks, that’s good to know!

Thank you! I’ll look forward to speaking with the other parent and try not to read into it too much
