Being Independent

The shoes on my feet
I’ve bought it
The clothes I’m wearing
I’ve bought it
The rock I’m rockin’
I’ve bought it
‘Cause I depend on me
If I wanted the watch you’re wearin’
I’ll buy it
The house I live in
I’ve bought it
The car I’m driving
I’ve bought it
I depend on me
(I depend on me)

All the women who are independent
Throw your hands up at me
All the honeys who makin’ money
Throw your hands up at me
All the mommas who profit dollas
Throw your hands up at me
All the ladies who truly feel me
Throw your hands up at me

You did not just type that.

Correct: I copy/pasted it.

I’m so dependent and it’s driving my crazy! I want to be financially independent so I can move on my life. I don’t want my parents to pay for my college and I wish I was good enough to get a scholarship for ROTC or anything. Doubt it since my stats are very mediocre (23 ACT 3.6 GPA). I wish it wasn’t that hard to join the Marines or Army.

Me 2. My mom is always taggin along acting all stupid and stuff and embarrasing me… i try to sneak away but then she yells at me. :frowning: so i wish i was independant.

Starstuck: Wow! How smart do you have to be to get into the army in the US?

ive traveled to spain by myself thats my biggest independent thing ive done
tonight will be the first time ive driven a car by myself :)

You have to take ASVAB if you want to join ROTC, which is basically like the ACT or SAT. It determines where and what you can enlist in. I’m comparing the USMC against the Army Rangers, the elite.

My parents especially my mother are super over protective so i get to do absolutely nothing by myself. When I have to go somewhere I have to call my parents when I get there and when I get ready to leave and if I am somewhere for more than forty five minutes my mom calls to see if im okay. I know she is gonna lose her mind when I go off to college. Me, I cannot wait to be able to go places alone even though I am too social to eat or shop alone.

Once you guys get a car youll go by yourself to places a lot more.

I’ve never went to like, a sit-down menu place alone but I’ve eaten lunch alone a fair amount (bring a book with me).

It’s only as embarrassing as you think it is. Being alone is better sometimes.

I LOVE BEING ABLE TO DRIVE.

that is all.

I came to this revelation at the beginning of around freshman year, and ever since I’ve become slightly more reserved.

My parents are also really over-protective since I’m a girl. There are times I really wish I were a guy lol.

My parents are extremely overprotective. Mainly my mom. In terms of indepence, I took the train and then subway into the city yesterday to go to an art museum with my friends. My mom wasnt too happy because there was no parent. My parents are doing that whole forcing-to-be-independent, make your own appts thing too.

This summer, I left on a flight from JFK to Seoul, South Korea by myself. I stayed for about six hours in South Korea, and then took another flight to Beijing, China. It really wasn’t much different than usual, except that I had to keep track of my documents (passport, etc.) and flight departure times.

Passing through swine flu inspection alone is quite intimidating, though.

Yup yup. I can drive, go places by myself, do anything and everything I want (but there are some things I don’t do).

I’ve ridden NJ transit on my own plenty of times before. But I’ve never sat alone at a restaurant or theater before lol. Minus Starbucks and places like that.

Oh, and yesterday, I got my first moving violation ticket =/. I was driving by myself, if that counts. Not too happy about it.

I love being alone; not having to worry about other people and not being caught up in the drama so many others seem to need. I really don’t care who did what, nor do I care about your angsty first-time relationship, etc. “I didn’t order drama with my life, I’d like a refund” is my ideology (is it?). Anyways, I’m rather reserved and quite independent, much to my over-protective mother’s chagrin.

Actually as I have aged, I have become a lot more indie.
I used to love the feeling of security and being surrounded by others, but lately I feel different :(

Oh the epiphany of Independence. Just one of the many sad steps toward adulthood.

I’m from nj and i got my first moving violation ticket too a couple weeks ago and I was so mad… I wasn’t even going anywhere good but I was by myself so it wasn’t as big of a deal. Though it was for cutting someone off and the situation wasn’t even a close call, which makes it more annoying.

I’ve:

Studied Abroad for seven weeks in Spain

Ate alone a lot at different fast food restaurants

Took the subway/metro by myself every day

Transferred three flights by myself to get to Spain

Transferred three flights by myself to get back to the USA

Slept in an airport both times by myself (due to storms)

I like to think I’m an independent person.
