What would you name a horse if you owned horses for the stakes races?

My first horse, far far far away from any stakes, was named Renegade, since we got him young and green and had to teach him not to give emergency dismounting lessons to our friends.

I watched Affirmed win the Triple Crown 37 years ago, it was a battle to beat Alydar.
Will we have another Triple Crown winner this year?

I’m watching. What would I name a horse if I had one? This, by the way, is an entirely different question than what would I name a turtle because naming horses and turtles are completely and totally different things.

I’m stalling until I think of something good. I dunno. E=Mc Squared is coming to mind as a really cool name for a fast hose. They are such beautiful animals. Read Laura Hillenbrand’s Seabiscuit novel if you haven’t.

I agree they are beautiful animals. I’ve heard Seabiscuit was mentioned. But American Pharaoh is a beautiful horse too.

What I would name it would depend partly on the sire and dam names. (I used to think about this a lot. :slight_smile: )

I must say, I’ve grown very tired of seeing fresh horses come in and win the Belmont.

Horse name, huh? I like American Pharoah. I don’t like the super-long names people use for horses and pedigreed dogs. So pretentious. It would be something funny or punny. Like Combo Plate #1.

I think it’s about time there was another Triple Crown winner - I just don’t know if AP is a great enough horse to do it.

I have no idea what I would name a horse.

I really know very little about the business of horse racing, but the name that came to mind is “PayTheRent.”
I’m hoping AP wins.

I tend to like names that are dignified. I don’t go for puns and jokes, and I really don’t like names that are strung-together words.

American Pharoah won, he did it. Fantastic!! What an American story, he was almost sold at auction 2 years ago and the owner had to buy him back.

Victor Espinoza seems like a great guy. Love his youthful enthusiasm! Hard to believe he’s 43, he looks much younger to me. Self made guy with very humble origins from a family of 12 kids, donates 10% of his winnings to pediatric cancer research.
