<p>The people who apply to alternative schools are a unique group so the number of applications they receive are often smaller than at many other schools. In 2004 only about 38 students applied to Bennington ED and all of them got in. Presumably these 38 people knew that they really fit in to Bennington’s unusual academic atmosphere (read: very self motivated). In most of the college information books Bennington is listed as “more selective” so the group that applies, while small, are pretty accomplished, and not always only in academics.</p>
<p>WoW, actually the character from the Simpsons was the owner (Asian) of an Oriental take-out/delivery restaurant that Bart was working at- his goal was to have his daughter get into a good college so he could call professors by the first name and all this stuff. He motivates Bart by telling what college he wants his daughter to get in and where she’ll go if he doesn’t hand out enough menus…Bart does very well and he wants to expand his business by buying an old redwood to make more menus…because “daughter on waitlist at Bennington.” </p>
