Other
Teacher recommendations should be great.
Essays so far are good…working on making them great.
White male, first generation college student
Want to major in something animal related (Berkeley would be Integrative Biology, Amherst would be Environmental Studies, anywhere else would be Wildlife/Conservation Biology, Animal Behavior, Ecology, Environmental Studies, etc.)

THANK YOUUUU BECAUSE I KNOW THIS IS A LOT.
Please be honest! Also I’m just really curious as to what schools are my matches, so please try to think of some!

I hate to say this but your 9th grade grades could hurt you, since they’re often seen as where a student has a light courseload. However, colleges will probably acknowledge the upward curve. If you had any family hardships or something to attribute your grades to, that could compensate (but not THAT much). Your ACT is slightly on the low end for Amherst, but it’s not bad. Your ECs and other things put you in the range for those schools, but it might not be enough to admit you “unhooked” (legacy, recruited athlete, URM, 1st gen college student).

UCB: Reach (I assume 3.84 is your UC GPA)
Amherst: Reach

There really isn’t a lot of schools doing animal-related stuff, but try U Tennessee…

Catria (and anyone else)…I don’t need to know schools that have animal-related programs specifically…I already know which ones I’m applying to. I just wanted to see which colleges are right in my range.

You should use the search function on this site–just enter your stats and some other criteria and lots of options should come up. You can also enter the names of schools you are interested in on the search tool at collegenavigator.gov.

Your math and science scores are very low for UCB and Amherst. If I were you I would definitely expand my list.

Recalculate your weighed GPA. I suspect you made a mistake since UC Berkeley only uses your 10th and 11th grade GPA. If your weighed is indeed 3.8, then both are reaches. Your Freshmen grades don’t hurt you very much.

UCB and Amherst are not likely (high reaches), but there many good state schools that offer integrative biology majors including (assuming all OOS) Illinois (low reach), UCLA (reach), USF (match), UC Denver (safety), and Michigan State (match).

The weighted GPA is what my school says. I don’t know anything about the UC GPA. Lol.

I don’t know if it’s just me, but the fact that you want to major in something biology related but received a C in your freshman biology course seems a little off-putting to me.

I’m much better at schoolwork now, and that teacher is known as one of the hardest in the school. No offense, but I’m not asking anyone to doubt me. I know what I’m interested in and what I want to do.
