Berkeley and Online Courses

Hi I’m going into my junior year and am planning on eventually applying to UC Berkeley for EECS and I am just wondering if they would care about me putting online courses as extracurriculars on my application and if it would improve my chances. The courses I would be taking online would very likely be from Coursera and be certified ones that i have to pay 50 to do and get a certificate for in the end.

What is the course teaching you? Generally extracurricular activities imply that it is non-classroom related, like learning karate, tennis, sports, a school newspaper etc.

programming and computer science theory.

It would improve your application to show your interest in EECS, but it wouldn’t really count as a extracurricular activity…seems more like just an extra class. It wouldn’t give you much of a “edge”, but it wouldn’t hurt to have it. Make sure you have a decent amount of extracurricular activities such as being president/vice president of a club, internship, research, or anything that involves leadership, or something you’ve participated in for a couple of years

ok thanks
