I attend the top ranked public (charter) high school in my state. I have a 3.9 unweighted gpa (have not taken weighted classes yet). My school is an IB school so I am in the MYP program and set to earn the IB diploma.
ECS:
Student Council - Class VP (been on Student Leadership since 6th grade - I attend a 6-12 school)
JSA (Junior State of America)
MUN (Model United Nations)
Glee Club
Amnesty/ Human Rights Club
Interact Club
Taking precalc, STEM chem, advanced vocal ensemble, and my classes are rigorous in general as per the pre-IB program.
(Hope to major in Poli Sci or something similar)
EXPLORE score: 25/25
PSAT: 194 (didn’t study though, could very well improve through SAT prep classes this summer)
If I continue my current trajectory, what are my chances? Also, how can I improve my chances? What kinds of school am I looking at getting into?
Thanks!
(PS: Posting through my sister’s account, so previous posts she’s made don’t apply)
At this point I think its still too early to give a meaningful chance. That being said…
A 3.9 GPA should look decent to Berkeley, or any other top school. 3.9 certainly won’t hurt you if you manage to keep it for the remainder of high school.
As for SATs: I scored a 197 on my sophomore year PSAT, and ended up with a 2310 after taking the SAT in my junior year. I didn’t do any SAT courses or “hardcore” prep– just diligent studying with some books. Try to get a 2200+. This matters a lot for top schools, and allows you to stand out for many of the other applicants.
Your doing well, and certainly seem to be on track to Berkeley. Best of luck!
While your academics are great and all, your ec’s are lacking in significance and leadership positions. I know you are just a sophomore but try to obtain a few ec’s and hopefully an internship that somewhat relates to your intended major. Other than that, you are golden, just like UC Berkelely! (A+ if you get that reference!)
