Berkeley EECS vs Harvard Math

I’ve just been accepted into Berkeley EECS, and the main question that lingers is whether or not I should just go ahead and submit the SIR ASAP.

I’ve received decisions from all colleges I’ve applied to except Harvard so far, and I’m wondering if Harvard’s decision is worth the wait. I applied to Berkeley because their EECS program was my dream since 3rd grade, I have many friends there, and I really liked the location. However, due to some of the ways Harvard has been doing stuff the past couple of years, I added them to my list of colleges. I’m mainly a computer person with a strong talent in math.

So the question therein lies: should I just go ahead and submit my SIR for Berkeley, or is Harvard worth the wait? Is there any advantage of submitting my SIR early?

I would wait until you have all your acceptances and financial aid offers on the table. There is no benefit for turning in your SIR early.

With the financial aid, Harvard may be cheaper for you than Berkeley…plus, it’s Harvard…:D

Congrats on your acceptance to Berkeley.

The FAFSA worked out really well for me, so practically speaking, the financial differences are almost nonexistent.

Even if Harvard decides to give me full ride, the difference in financial aid between Harvard and Berkeley is going to be so small that I would almost miss it.

Do I get an upper hand at housing, etc. if I submit early?

no upper hand…there’s no benefit in submitting early; what’s important is that it’s in by the deadline, but earlier does not equal better. …thus, i’d wait it out…

^ I don’t think so regarding housing. It’s a different application. It’s been awhile since I was at Berkeley though, so Im not the best source.

Harvard announced they’re waiving tuition for students whose family income is $180,000 or under…good deal IMO.

I’m glad Berkeley came thru for you financially.

Seriously though, I’d wait until you hear from Harvard. You paid the application fee and wrote essays…I wouldn’t rush the decision yet.
