Ok, so I have 2 teachers, one from comp sci and one from psychology. I also have a supplemental rec from a volunteer organization. I know my psychology rec is going to be amazing, but my comp sci rec is going to be generic. The person who is writing my rec from the volunteer organization showed me the letter and it was very strong. I am now faced with a dilemma. I am majoring in computer science (in EECS), so I’m not sure which two letters to use. Should I go for my psychology and computer science teacher, even though my computer science teacher’s LOR is weak? Or should I go for my psychology and volunteer organization letter even though I am majoring in computer science? Thanks.
If I were you, I would use your psychology and volunteer letter of recc. Ultimately you want to pick the letters that best showcase who you are beyond numbers, the qualities you bring to the university can be applied to whatever major you decide to study. I personally think it would weaken your application if you used the one from your computer science teacher when it is less than stellar versus having two strong letter of reccs no matter what area of expertise the writer comes from. Best of luck!
