Berkeley MBB placement?

Does anyone know how good Berkeley’s MBB (mckinsey boston c, bain) placement is, for a semi-hard major? (I’m considering political economy - or similar majors) I’m not considering Haas …so despite what many say Berkeley is a “target” for IB…I tend to be a little reserved. I think a government major at Dartmouth has a higher chance of being recruited at a BB than a poli-sci at Berkeley.

I’m considering working at a MBB / bulge-bracket (leaning towards MBB) for a year or two after graduation then go for a MBA.

In choosing my major I seek to strike a balance between high GPA and good placement after college.

thanks.

https://career.berkeley.edu/Major/PEIS.stm</a> indicates that two 2012 political economy graduates reported going to work at Bain, but previous reports indicate no political economy graduates reported going to work at your target companies.

I’ve read those career reports , ucbalumnus…which is why I’m asking here.

Those reports aren’t very good because not everyone replies and not necessarily representative of the population.

I’m not entirely sure, but I know there is definitely a lot less people going to work in MBB, or even consulting in general, than going into investment banking/bulge bracket, at least in the Haas circuit. BCG, for example, doesn’t even hold an info session on campus. It’s not impossible, and with a solid GPA and good experience you can definitely land a position there. I think they care less about the major and more about the interview once you actually land an interview, so I wouldn’t worry too much about your major affecting your placement.

There are other sources you can look at for MBB placement.

According to LinkedIn, there are 60 alums graduating between 2005-2009 who are at McKinsey. A good number have Berkeley as their most prestigious alma mater.

Compare this with 5 from UC Davis, all who got degrees from Sloan, Harvard, or other schools. Or to Harvard which has 190 McKinsey people, many of which are from HBS.

somewhat agree with Alluric…at least that’s what I thought.

As for bubbles for sale’s figure, I hope the 60 UCB alum does not suggest they’re all from Haas, which I’m not going to.
