Berkeley Transfers

does taking a pre-req class at berkeley in the summer (that is only offered by berkeley) give an applicant a huge advantage?

ex.

for your major, you must take X class and berkeley is the only place that offers that class…

if you take X class in the summer of freshman/sophmore year, wouldn’t that give an applicant a huge advantage bc they will be ahead of so many applicants who dont have that pre-req done and will need to take that class once they’re in at berkeley?

First, it depends on the major. Second, they won’t expect you to complete it at Cal, so it won’t hurt you but I don’t think it will be that big of a help to you (possibly not worth it).

‘they wont expect you to complete it at cal’

are you sure? i think that if a major has an lower division requirement that is only offered at Berkeley, then transfer students have to come, take that course their first semester, and then they are able to declare.

and by taking a class that is required to declare, and is only offered at Berkeley…i would be one of the very few who have that requirement met, since most applicant wont have this course requirement met…shouldn’t this put me way ahead/give me a huge advantage lol

…not expected to complete it at Cal BEFORE TRANSFERRING.

It would be an unfair advantage to local students or students who have more funds available.

unfortunately thats true, but that doesn’t change whether its to my advantage or not lol

I’d say it’s an advantage. If anything, it shows initiative.

thanks guys.

yea thats what i’m thinking mrmuirc.
