Berkeley Vs WashU Vs Northwestern Pre-Med (Biology and Econ Major)

In terms of getting in: Wash U > NU and Cal
International Name Recogniation: Cal > Wash U and NU
Pre-Med? Wash U and Berkeley (but too much cutthroat at Cal) > NU
Economics? berkeley > The rest (?)

Is financial aid/cost of education a problem?

For Bio and Econ, I think Berkeley would be great match. Not much of a med school to speak of, but Haas is top notch if you ever shift gears and decide that you want to go for an MBA. Same can be said for the b-school at NU. Not sure about strength of PhD econ programs but I’m sure someone can help you out

In terms of recognition, Wash U is still a laggard (even though they’re come miles in this category). NU and Cal diplomas, on the other hand, are going to get a lot more name recognition. In the end, it really depends. WashU has the best med school out of your top 3. But undergrad med isn’t the same as med school - just take Hopkins for example. Are you absolutely locked into medicine / is econ a contingency plan?

In terms of getting in: Wash U = NU = Cal (people that get into one often get rejected by the other two; no consistent trend)
International Name Recogniation: Cal > NU > WashU
Pre-Med? Wash U and NU > Berkeley
Economics? Berkeley = NU > WashU

I think this has got to be between NU and Cal. Both offer better college experience than WUSL. Both also are more prestigious locally and internationally. Both also have stronger academic programs for your course choices, biology and economics. As for getting into med school, all the three would get you into top med schools.

If you can stand NU’s weather, and cost wouldn’t be so much of an issue for you and your parents, I’d say go for NU. Otherwise, Cal is it for you.
