Berkeley's LOTE section.

Hello, everyone.
Even after I read some threads, I still don’t get some parts… I took Korean 3 (skipped 1&2) at my CCC and received an A. Never took any other levels of foreign language classes other than Korean 3 and Japanese 1 (got an A in Japanese 1 also). Would that satisfy my LOTE requirement at Berkeley and UC’s? Also, I took SAT II Korean subject test and scored a 800 on it when I was in high school. So I am fine right? Should I report SAT II Korean as well?

Also, what is the L&S requirement? O.o Why are there 2 different sections for LOTE? Can anyone clarify this? My major is Philosophy.

Thank you in advance.

If Korean is IGETC certified at your CCC, you are good. If not, I don’t know, maybe you can report your SAT II score, maybe not. As for L&S, there are two ways to complete GenEd, either IGETC or L&S requirements.
By the way, Philosophy, really? not poli sci

^ Dude, why do you keep saying that? I’m not a poli-sci major. I took 4 philosophy classes at my CCC. Who are you? And Korean is definitely IGETC certified at CCC’s.

@Berkeleyphil: I think you’re fine. I believe that Korean 3 satisfies the requirement. Nero… why do you say that OP is a poli sci major? OP applied as a Philosophy major.

I believe he was questioning the merits of majoring in Philosophy when you could study very similar content as a polisci major and have better job prospects. Not speaking for him but that makes more sense than how you guys interpreted it lol

Well my goal is to go to a law school so major doesn’t really matter to me. I also took 3 poli-sci courses at my ccc and applied to ucsd as a poli-sci major but I find philosophy more interesting and fun so I applied to Berkeley and ucla as a philosophy major.

And how is poli-sci similar to philosophy? lol anyway what I was wondering was why nero keeps saying that I should’ve applied as a poli-sci major on several threads of mine -___- as for the LOTE requirement, I’m good right? ):

Just wondering berkeleyphil, are you looking to get into Berkeley for Fall 2011 as a junior transfer? Also, are you Korean or did you just take Korean for the foreign language requirement?

I ask this because i think we are pretty much one in the same person: 4.0, looking to get into UCB/UCLA as a Philosophy major, hopeful law school student, 19 years old(?), transferring from a CC.

I am Korean lol and I am
19. But my gpa isn’t 4.0 ): what about you?

If he’s going to law, philosophy should be fine. As long as he keeps good grades in Berkeley, he should be just as competitive as a poli-sci major.

yeah, 19 years old, berkeley is my top pick, and I am korean. You are at SMC right? I am at OCC right now waiting for the acceptance/rejection letters. I heard SMC is the only CC in the area that surpasses OCC in transfer stats.

Yeah I have a 4.0, I ****ed around in HS, just now making up for lost time.

Lucky that you have a 4.0. Philosophy classes at SMC are really difficult… So I didn’t do well in philos class but did well in others (u prolly knew it if u saw my other treads). I think that will lower my chances lol

@xViral: thank you. Are u also a philos major?

LOLLL nero that seriously makes me lol everytime

Yep.

I was searching around the forums a couple months before and had several threads supporting the previous statement though.

haha zeitgeist is projecting. but no, I just think berkeleyphil looks like a poli sci major.

Whats wrong with poli sci? Since thats my major, I have to ask… whats the admit rate at Cal? IIRC, that pdf they released just shows an aggregate percentage for a whole bunch of majors within L&S, but what about political science in particular?

yeah you are right stefan! it’s aggregate but I bet berkeleyphil does know. He probably also knows the admit rate for philospphy and compared it.

Hi, I need some help for the LOTE section. Do I have to put down what High School classes I took for my language or all I have to do is just check the box that says I did 3 years of the same language in high school?
Thank you!
