Berkeley's summer institute for gifted

My son is a freshman and got accepted into Berkeley’s summer institute for gifted (https://secure.giftedstudy.org/sig/pdf/catalog_residential.pdf). How good is the program for rising sophomores? Will it provide value, good experience?

Will greatly appreciate any input/feedback.
Thx

I believe these programs can give students a fun, enriching experience but my understanding is that they don’t boost college admissions. I also don’t think there is any Berkeley affiliation beyond using the campus facilities. My S did a program at Northwestern on summer. He enjoyed it and came home enthusiastic with new ideas about areas he’d like to explore.

My daughter participated in SIG at UCLA a few years ago, as a rising 8th grader. She had a great time, learned a lot, and gained some independence. The program is not affiliated with the schools that host, and I doubt they give any boost in admissions, past helping shape the kids into who they’re going to become. It was pricey, but a wonderful experience for her.
