Berklee's 5-week Aspire summer program scholarships

Talk to me about Berklee’s 5-week Aspire summer intensive in terms of the value of the experience aside from the possibility of a college scholarship. The summer program is so pricey. I have a Jr who is definitely going to college for jazz (piano).

Anyone here have a kid who got the full cost (tuition and housing) covered with the Jazz Workshop scholarship? Any idea how many they give out and how hard it is to get? The main 5-week performance intensive scholarship only goes up to 3K. My son does know a few kids who graduated from his performing arts school who got the Jazz Workshop scholarship but I don’t know how unusual that is. My guess is they don’t give out many. My kid is a great player and his video submissions will be solid.

If he were to attend Aspire and earn a college scholarship through the program, I still think it’s unlikely we could afford Berklee for college; cost of living alone puts us at our limit.

How did Aspire benefit your kid? Valuable connections? I’m sure he would have a wonderful time, which is valuable enough of course!

So…my current college freshman only did a one week, guitar sessions, bc Berklee really wasn’t his clear top choice (he was looking for more of a University vibe) and he wanted to do a few other programs that summer. BUT, even with that one week he made serious valuable connections. There were two professors who took and interest in him and kept in touch via email right up through his college selection process. They both wrote him letters of recommendation for Berklee. Aside from that he did get awarded a substantial scholarship at the end of the program. Hope this helps.

Thanks! I suppose the connections are valuable beyond the advantage for Berklee admission if a kid makes an effort to keep in touch.

yes! the connections are invaluable…Mine made a great connection with a professor at another school he had to “say no” to…he was VERY amazing about it and told him the grad school door is always open. Good luck!
