Best book for APUSH?

I know about AMSCO.

But is that enough? Any prep books that are very useful?

[AP U.S. History Crash Course (REA)](http://www.amazon.com/U-S-History-Crash-Course-REA/dp/0738605603/ref=pd_bbs_1?ie=UTF8&s=books&qid=1237508173&sr=8-1) is a new book. It covers only the important topics and its all about the key points for each event/topic/activity/legislation/war

Never heard of that?

What about Princeton or Barron’s?

Trust me, its quite popular on CollegeConfidential, read some other threads related to APUSH. Princeton is okay; it skimps on the wars, don’t remember it mentioning a single battle from the Civil War. Barron’s APUSH is terrible I hear; unorganized.

and it’s only $8 something on Amazon, it’s worth buying

So, its better then Barron’s or Princeton?

I am going to be taking the SAT 2 in USH as well. Whats the best book for that as well?

I will have…

AMSCO
APUSH prep book
SAT 2 Prep Book.

Suggestions for that case.

The crash course isn’t like a normal review book, which just condenses textbooks. The crash course is mainly topics followed by a few bullet points of the important facts. A short excerpt below:

The Proclamation of 1763

 1. The Proclamation of 1763 forbade British colonists to cross an imaginary boundary along the crest of the Appalachian Mountains.
 2. The primary purpose of the Proclamation of 1763 was to avoid conflict between the trans-Appalachian Indians and British colonists seeking inexpensive land.

It doesn’t go into extreme detail, just what you need to know. It’s also quite organized, and has chapters for important themes as well, like African American, women, etc themes

Using Amsco and crash course should be substantial for the SAT II USH, since the curriculums overlap for the most part

What about for like DBQ’s and strategies? That book only has concepts?

AMSCO gives you full preparation as to how you should write DBQs. Tons of questions.

Ok.

So, AMSCO, REA

and for SAT… should i get College Board or Princeton? Or is that even needed?

…bump…

Princeton’s SAT II USH and World History are terrible. It’s two courses in a 300ish page book and doesn’t cover anything. If you can, borrow the College Board SAT II USH from the library. I don’t know if $12 is really worth two really old practice tests that doesn’t really reflect the difficulty of current exams.

^Agree. PR is way overrated. For real practice buy the 2006 and 2001 released tests at the College Board Online Store. You can also ask your teacher for a copy of the 2008 Practice test.

Hmm… I will just get it in case. The College Board Book.

Well guys thanks for the help.

I liked Sparknotes SATII for reading, and Sparknotes flashcards for studying. I also used a bit of Kaplan and Cliffnotes (don’t know why…), and both were okay. Kaplan was better though, especially the organization of the book.

I know that this will sound offensive to CC, but AMSCO has some errors in it. My friend (an avid AMSCO fan) and I got into a couple disputes over facts, and after consultation of textbooks and even the great Wikipedia we found that AMSCO was in fact wrong. The errors are pretty insignificant though, and AMSCO is surely the best source I’ve seen, irregardless of its minor flaws.

I also encourage you to check out <a href=“Free History Study Guides | Shmoop”>http://www.shmoop.com/history/</a> . I was one of the beta testers, and one of the first members to join. It’s basically a bunch of very smart people who graduated from HYPS and wanted to create a rival to Sparknotes. Since it’s fairly new, I never got to use it much last year. Definitely check it out anyways!

^Thanks for the info. =)

As for the REA book. I went to Barnes and Nobles and picked up the Crash Course. But, there was another REA book, yellow and big. It was $30, worth the price?

http://www.amazon.com/AP-United-States-History-REA/dp/0738602183</a></p>

The only thing extra seems to be practice tests?

AMSCO. 10 char

i have the mcgraw hill book, it seems to cover each time period well… i haventused ityet though. does anybody know if this book is good?

its called 5 steps to a 5 AP US History second edition.

so would this book not really help me?

I like princeton review for this test. It’s entertaining. I got a 5 and that’s what I used.
