<p>I’m going to be taking 18.01, but I’m unsure if which calculator to get. I used the TI89 (borrowed) in High School Calculus but it might not be the best one to get for MIT. What do you recommend? (Possible major: 2 or 6, just in case that helps)</p>
<p>You will not be allowed to use a calculator in pretty much any of your classes, so you’d really just be buying a calculator to use on psets (the exception are some introductory science classes, where a graphic calculator won’t really be an asset). Psets are also often mostly focused on symbolic manipulations, so regular scientific calculators won’t really be that much of an asset either. If you’re going to spend money on a calculator, you’re probably better off buying a student Mathematica license.</p>
<p>You won’t need a physical calculator. However, sometimes it is very useful to be able to plot functions and see what they look like or do quick calculations.
