Hello!
I’m a high school senior who was offered the trojan transfer and I’m pretty dead-set on going to USC instead of attending a UC/CSU, and I was just wondering if it matters where I attend for community college and how my classes are taken (hybrid vs online vs in-person).
I was considering Crafton Hills CC since it’s somewhat nearby and they have an articulation agreement with USC, but Santa Monica College also has an agreement with USC and supposedly has a high USC transfer rate. However, SMC is 2 hours away and I’d have to take online courses, does that have any impact on my application if my courses are online as opposed to taking classes at CHCC in person?
I’ve tried reading about it on their transfer brochure but I either missed it or my question wasn’t really answered well.
Thank you!
I moved your question into the USC forum. @CADREAMIN might be able to help.

If you already have a guaranteed transfer offer, then I don’t think a higher USC transfer rate matters at all. Even if SMC is more favored by USC Admissions (which isn’t necessarily proven by the higher transfer rate anyway) that shouldn’t really affect you.
What matters is the articulation agreement, and Crafton Hills has that. It also has an honors program, which again you don’t need for admissions purposes, but it would probably improve the quality of your experience.
Online classes should be accepted if they’re part of the articulation agreement, but I don’t think there’s any reason to give up the benefits of a campus where you could get involved in person, for a more distant campus that you think is incrementally “better.” Being able to pick and choose instructors of in-person classes is better than having to take the online section no matter who’s teaching it. As long as the close-to-home campus has the coursework you want and need, and you do a little digging about faculty and campus life and feel comfortable that you’d have a good experience, prioritize convenience and quality of life, which will also make it easier to get the grades you need to complete the transfer.

My daughter is vpp and attending SMC. If you are trying to get in to Viterbi, unfortunately you can’t do online classes. You have to do in person and take a lab course. If you are trying to transfer to Marshall, I suggest you get your calc and writing requirement in the fall. I noticed a lot of anxiety comes with Sgr if your major specific transfer classes are in spring. I read on here some ttp students were allowed to take online courses but I think it’s best to ask your AO if this is possible. I am not sure if you had the meeting with your AO but she or he will go through the articulation agreement with you and tell you which classes to take in the fall.
