Isn’t Princeton’s and Duke’s gardens like world famous?

Duke’s gardens are wonderful, but I’m very familiar with them. I was wondering about gardens/arboretums elsewhere.

Perhaps this little part of The Farm might soften your stance:

Also, the University of California Botanical Garden is a 34-acre garden in Berkeley with some 12,000 species of plants. Pretty awesome.

Great pictures! Xiggi, Stanford’s Cactus Garden is definitely more what I had in mind, even if it does look very dry. :p

KandKsmom, I absolutely love those pictures of Virginia Tech! I think the duck pond is a winner.

Botanical gardens are nice and all, but how about one of the worlds largest butterfly gardens?

I guess they are not too worried about the water shortages that hit from time to time.

I’ve also heard that Scott Arboretum at Swat is very nice, though I’ve not visited–

Two large public parks bracket the University of Chicago campus, Washington Park to the West and Jackson Park to the East (bordering Lake Michigan). A mile-long expanse of grass, called the Midway Plaisance, bisects the U of C campus and connects these two great parks. North of campus is the residential Hyde Park neighborhood (pre-election home to President Obama).

Stanford’s campus is absolutely breathtaking! There are many beautiful spots to sit and read!

The other UW ;), the one in Seattle, also has some wonderful gardens. The University owns the Arboretum, 260 acres of botanical beauty adjoining the campus. When the rhodies are in bloom, it is a sight to see.

On the grounds of the Arboretum are the Japanese Garden [Seattle Parks & Recreation: Japanese Garden](Japanese Garden - Parks | seattle.gov)

The Pacific northwest and BC is so beautiful.

My alma mater, Wellesley, has the most wonderful arboretum…wonderful for contemplation and renewal. Even more gorgeous 30 years later.
Here it is: [Wellesley College Botanic Gardens - Arboretum Virtual Tour](http://www.wellesley.edu/WCBG/Visit/Tour/arboretum.html)

Also, touring colleges with my son, the gardens at Union in NY took my breathe away:
Here it is: [url=<a href=“http://www.union.edu/Campus/trees/gardens.php]College”>http://www.union.edu/Campus/trees/gardens.php]College Gardens/url

The Connecticut College Arboretum is a beautiful expanse, covering hundreds of acres, of specimen trees, shrubs, flowers, ponds and landscape done in a naturalistic way. It’s a wonderful place to explore, read, play and renew.

Warblers, this isn’t what you had in mind, but at UW, the winters were no time to be outdoors- so I am going to voice my support for the green houses on campus that function much like outdoor gardens [Untitled Document](http://www.botany.wisc.edu/garden/UW_Greenhouse/htdocs/htdocs/htdocs/tour/index.html#anchor213765)

Sadly, not all campuses open these up to the student population.
