Best CC threads of all time?

I agree, but I haven’t kept up with it as much ever since interesteddad left. He sometimes posted things on other threads that bothered or annoyed me, but he was pretty spot on in that thread. His absence makes me sad.

The only thing I find “hard core” about that thread are the amazing things that CCers (many of them far older) accomplish. It’s so impressive and inspiring at times; other times, it can be a little intimidating.

“I think I broke my poodle” - :))

I haven’t posted on the “hard core” thread in years, but I peak in from time to time. I still have many of interested Dad’s posts and links bookmarked. I think he had the best advice for rank beginners at exercising for health and weightloss.

My favorite threads are the bookclub threads. The experience of reading a book with people who actually have read the book, spend the time to find links, reviews and interviews on line and are willing to keep talking for a couple of weeks just doesn’t compare to IRL bookclubs, though they have their place. My favorites threads (not necessarily my favorite books) were the ones where we discussed A.S. Byatt’s Possession, Eleanor Catlon’s The Luminaries and Alice Munro’s Dear Life. They are what I wish high school English classes had been like.

I can’t believe I haven’t notice anyone posting my favorite thread: http://talk.collegeconfidential.com/parent-cafe/923318-worst-dressed-when-ugly-and-expensive-meet.html#latest Thanks to it, the BEST ads appear in all my social media!

garland’s meta thread is my hands-down favorite.
I do enjoy the book club threads though–the discussions have been very interesting.
I would really like a “Collected wisdom of curmudgeon” thread.

However, the second list had no safeties, just like the first list. Fortunately, he was admitted to all of the new schools on the second list, but there was potential for another shutout.

My most informative, go to threads are the Diet and Exercise thread, and the retirement thread. But I really enjoyed the free for all, unfiltered threads on the elections and politics forum. I definitely learned a lot and started moderating my position after reading those posts.

No matter what thread I read, I appreciate it when people can give difference of opinions while still being kind and not personally attacking other posters. There are many great threads here. The funnier, the better.

Thank you, Consolation. Yes, it was Curmudgeon’s thread about driving his daughter to college I was trying to remember.

I have a handful of favorite threads but the one which has changed my life is the Diet/Exercise, etc. thread (otherwise known as as the "hardcore " thread).

I posted on and off on the thread and then got mad at a poster who told me the 20 minutes on the treadmill I was doing wasn’t enough. Except…he was right. I got back on the thread just 2 years ago when I decided to really commit to fitness and began practicing yoga regularly and running.

The thread made me accountable. Truthfully it was the combination of being inspired and and encouraged by the other posters and not wanting to appear to be a slacker that got me going.

On of my favorite all-time lines was in the Curmudgeon takes his daughter to school thread. They were in two cars and for some reason they switched so Curmudgeon was driving his daughter’s car with broken air conditioning in the summer heat. As he phrased it, “I wore that Xterra like a mohair sweater vest.”. (I think that’s pretty close to an exact quote.)

A quick CC search for “Mohair sweater vest” brought the thread right up - enjoy! http://talk.collegeconfidential.com/discussion/comment/4605193#Comment_4605193

^^^ I just read @curmudgeon drop off tale. . What a hoot! Thanks for sharing.

Did curmudgeon say goodbye to CC or did s/he just stop posting?

His daughter got older and he just sort of moved on.
