Best Cellphone provider & coverage for Blackberry at UT?

Hi all, I’m coming from overseas so I don’t know what kind of providers are there in Austin, how do they work (plans, rates, etc), and which are the best in terms of coverage or price. I’m carrying my own blackberry, and am planning to just switch my SIM card if possible. (Truth is, I want to buy iPhone 4, but decided to wait a few months until the issue has been cleared =D ). Thanks!

ANYTHING but Cellular One! AT&T is pretty good. Not sure about the price though. And IPhones are expensive because you are charged an extra 30 bucks a month for the data plan. (All I know!)

AT&T is very good. There was an issue last year where a cell tower east of Guadalupe broke, resulting in horrible texting and dropped calls. Literally one side of the street had 5 bars, and the other had 0 or 1. They fixed that though, and now it works great again.

I have an iPhone 3GS and I was very pleased by the coverage and service in the entire Austin area, especially around the campus/west campus area.

How’s AT&T’s data plan/subscription for blackberry?

That all depends on what features you want, which phone you have, if you are on a family plan, etc. Check AT&T’s website for plans, or visit a local AT&T store.

But I don’t have to buy a new Blackberry from AT&T right? Just the sim card?

You won’t be buying a phone no, just a phone/data plan. It still depends on what features you want though: phone minutes, texts # or unlimited, data MB or unlimited, etc.

AT&T no longer has unlimited data…it’s Now $15 for 200 mb a month or $25 for 2 gig a month…

If you do get AT&T, I’d go with the 15 a month b/c you can use wifi all over campus so you wouldn’t need that much data

You’re better off doing T-Mobile flex pay or something. AT&T is pretty expensive… Or just going with sprint 69 a month for unlimited data w/ 450 minutes.(you will have to buy a new phone though)

Well, I’m considering changing into an iPhone, so I don’t think I’ll use BB for more than another 3-4 months. It’s a big relief I don’t need to buy a new phone!

^^Is T-mobile as good as AT&T?

For the price it is!

How about its coverage at UT?

Coverage is pretty good actually, AT&Ts service is slightly better. I doubt you’ll notice a difference though.

I had AT&T for quite a while. I don’t like them. I gave them up for Verizon. I’m even willing to give up on the I-Phone. (The Android phones are really good. I have the HTC Incredible). I find verizon’s coverage better, and every place they have coverage, they have the fast 3g. My AT&T had faster 3g in SOME PLACES, but the majority was really slow coverage. Anyway, i’d go with verizon and an android phone.
