My S (a current HS junior) received the best, unexpected Christmas gift this year. He was singing a solo (O Holy Night) at our church on Christmas Eve. Unknown to us, a “quite famous” opera singer was visiting with his family in the congregation during one service. After the service, he made a point to find my S and tell him how much he enjoyed the solo. He was very encouraging and invited S to come sing for him to polish his college audition material. Also invited S to come visit him back stage when he sings with the Dallas Opera this Spring.

The funny part is that in one of the earlier services there was a current Broadway performer visiting, who also made a point to speak to S and give him college advice. S thought that was the highlight of his evening until the “opera star” came by. What a priceless gift - and I didn’t have to spend a dime.
