I researched the best clothes steamer for my kids as they have been trying to keep their clothes wrinkle-free without the hassle of using an iron every day. They have been experiencing issues with stubborn wrinkles, time-consuming ironing, and delicate fabrics getting damaged easily during college time.
Any suggestions or advice would be appreciated.
Thanks in advance
I bought a Conair Extreme steam from wholesale club. Bit larger than my previous but nice because it heats up very fast and has a larger water tank (big plus). Lightweight. Does a good quick job of getting rid of wrinkles (unless they are really set in–then it takes longer).
We also try to buy only non-wrinkle clothing because I’m not an ironer nor a steamer person. Our S does iron or steam, as does our D. In fact, we had the ironing board in S’s closet because he was the only one in our house that ironed. We had to buy an iron and steamer for his wedding. We got the steamer either at Macy’s or Costco, whichever was cheaper. We got the iron at Macy’s. D has taken to steaming as needed, especially dresses she gets crumpled and doesn’t want to wash unnecessarily. The steamer works just fine for our purposes and does not damage the clothing.
We have to be sure to use distilled water only because we have hard water (with a lot of sediment) and otherwise things will get clogged. I’d suggest you see how much your kids really USE a steamer at home and they can buy whatever they need via Amazon if they’ll use it.
We bought a commercial grade steamer for one kids wedding…a location which did not have a “prep room” so we made our own. Bride, attendants, families…everyone steaming their wedding clothes after the plane/train/auto trip.
One of my kids (who clearly had never used the steamer we bought for freshman year move-in) commented “wow, everyone looks great without the wrinkles!”.
Hand held steamers did not give me the results I wanted, so I bought a commercial Jiffy Steamer. It is SOOO effective and easy, even on heavier fabrics. But it is always out and visible, so that’s a consideration.
Most clothes, when snagged out of the dryer as the cycle finishes, don’t need this care but some do, and some clothes need this between washes.
