I am planning on majoring in computer science and physics. I will have no problem getting into any school, so feel free to recommend anything to me. I have visited many of the ivy league schools, and in every single one I found out that the majority of students on campus are hipsters, and this is an absolutely unacceptable environment if I will study CS and physics there. What schools do not have this problem?

Every school has hipsters

And usually hipsters are the ones that call everyone else hipsters

Nice one barrk :)

By definition yes, but I am talking about blatant hipsters who wear headphones, have plenty of apple products. I went to MIT and I saw many people use Xcode on a mac. That was an absolutely horrible experience, I have no idea how MIT even gets its reputation.

Hipsters hate on people for using popular products

You might want to check yourself out before you judge others as hipsters

“By definition yes” Read before you post. I already posted the criteria for “hipster” in that post.

Okay, Hipster.

Guess I came to the wrong forums? Anybody other than barrk have any information?

Gotta go with barrk on this one.

Well this wasn’t very helpful… How about you guys tell me about your school?

Brigham Young University, not known for being all that hipster-friendly

Princeton.

Brigham Young looks like a great school, except for its religious affiliation. Because of this, I doubt that I would feel welcome there.

The United States Military Academy (USMA) in West Point, New York
The United States Naval Academy (USNA) in Annapolis, Maryland
The United States Air Force Academy (USAFA) in Colorado Springs, Colorado

Lol couldn’t be more true barrk123. Don’t make your decision based on this though, you will realize after you’ve been in college for a bit that people see you as an individual rather than some extension of a certain clique like they did in high school. Any big school I guarantee you can find every personality trait or type imaginable. But ya I think you are looking for something that doesn’t exist unless you want to go to a super religious school or military institution. Still, it’s a good idea to visit the town and campus before you decide that you want to spend the next four years of your life there.
And I go to CU, located in Boulder, CO which is prime hipster habitat. I can’t stand the overly pretentious hipsters who think they’re way smarter and more cultured than you either, however i’ve managed to meet tons of people who aren’t like that here and have enjoyed it overall. I mean you can’t characterize a student body of like 25000 undergrads with one adjective.

Maybe somewhere like Rice or University of Chicago? They are known for being more intellectual and quirky ;D

I have visited princeton, and it is just ok. I don’t like the curriculum for CS.

I am not much of a military guy, but the mentioned schools are actually really good. It is a lengthy process for applying to them, and the requirements are a pain to complete.

I will definitely visit the school before I apply. My current choice is SUNY- Stony Brook because of their excellent CS and physics programs. The only problem is that the students that I have met and talked to are totally helpless and the campus feels like a prison.

I have looked over Rice and U of Chicago, and both schools have poor CS curriculums. I want a school that has a huge variety of CS electives and a high CS credit requirement while having a minimum liberal arts credit requirement for graduation.

What about University of Rochester? They have no credit requirements, you create your own schedule. They are supposed to be strong in the sciences, but I don’t know much about CS

Richmond? Bucknell? UNC? Vanderbilt?

Literally just naming schools off the top of my head that strike me as the opposite of hipster

Uh, what’s wrong with “people use Xcode on a mac”?
