Best Colleges for Entrepreneurship

Hi everyone,
I’m currently a Junior in Delaware, I am considering a career in Entrepreneurship/Start-up Business. So I was wondering which colleges would provide me with the best resources to pursue a majors in Computer Engineering and a minor( or maybe double major) in Business while offering the best value at the given cost. Thanks!

While you may not be able to study computer engineering, Babson College is an A+ school for entrepreneurship, in fact no. 1 in the study. I don’t know if you’d be able to do this but the Olin College of Engineering is nextdoor and you could take classes there for computer engineering.

Babson is excellent for entrepreneurship and you can take courses at Olin and Wellesley. Olin actually offers an engineering certificate (which is like a minor) to Babson and Wellesley students (I have a family member who went to Babson and did this). What you would end up with is a major in business with a concentration in technology, entrepreneurship and design and a certificate in engineering. A potential problem with this is that in the current climate, cross registering in computer related courses can be very difficult because they are in such high demand.

The Boston area is really good for these interests given the large computer related start-up community.
Tufts offers a major in Computer Engineering and a minor in Entrepreneurial Leadership which is really good.

In your area, I would look into University of Maryland, they may have combined programs.

Babsons whole mission in life is based on entrepreneurial studies. Top grads and they actually fund the students to start new ventures as a class activity. I’m sure there’s countless other schools that fit the bill as well. I have to say that I am biased a bit as I went there for a leadership development grad program. It was excellent. But really business oriented. I didn’t get a sense of the traditional rah rah collegiate vibe which is good for one and not for another. You’ll. Know.

Babson is a top notch school for entrepreneurship and they do have a joint course with Olin to get them grounded in technology. See Babson undergraduate concentrations @ http://www.babson.edu/Academics/undergraduate/concentrations/Pages/default.aspx

If you want computer engineering you need to be admitted to Olin College. This is a very small and very selective school which bases their program around projects where students work directly with faculty on real projects from corporations. It is a whole lot easier to go from Olin to Babson classes than the other way around. See http://www.olin.edu/academics/curriculum/

WPI is not as selective nor as tutorial as Olin, but is also very project directed. They have a entrepreneurial grounded business school with very well developed programs in all the engineering fields. They offer Computer Engineering,
Computer Science, Robotics, Big Data, et al complete with a resident patent office.
