Best credit card warranties?

<p>DH is about to get a new laptop and I hate the extended warranty push they make. I can’t recall which credit cards offer the best extended warranties, but surely one or more of them would offer something that might provide adequate warranty past the manufacturers warranty offered on the laptop (whichever he chooses- he is still choosing between a few). Help, cc’ers.</p>

<p>If I remember right it will double the manufactuers warranty up to an additional year. </p>

<p>So if you have a six month warranty it will double that and you get an extra six months out of it giving you one year total. If you have a one year warranty, it will double that and you’ll get an extra year out of it giving you two total. But if you have a three year warranty it will only give you one extra year instead of six since it caps at one additional year.</p>

<p>I could be wrong on this, but i’m fairly sure that’s how it works.</p>

<p>I’ve only used it once - when my washer broke. I had to mail them a copy of my original warranty so they could see the length of it, a copy of my repair bill, a copy of my receipt and a copy of the credit card statement that the charge was showing on.</p>

<p>Costco Amex extends the manufacturer’s warranty on non-Costco purchases for up to 1 year beyond the manufacturer’s term (if it is less than 5 yrs). Costco-purchased products get additional benefits (3 yr warranty on laptops, as I recall, but that might have changed).</p>

<p>Amex also provides some sort of an insurance; it reimbursed oD the cost of a stolen item (she filed a claim and got her money back).</p>

<p>American Express. They have up to one year warranty. D1 lost her iphone 2 weeks before end of one year. They offered to credit our acct right away without asking for any report. But D1 found the phone in few hours in front of a fraternity, I didn’t ask how that happened. A friend’s son laptop went out 6 months after he bought it. He also went through AmEx to file a claim.</p>

<p>Amex. Great warranty extension AND impeccable customer service when you use the buyer’s assurance (or whatever it is called.) Husband dropped his cellphone shortly after purchasing it. I called Amex, and within a day the price he originally paid for it was credited to our account. They didn’t even ask us to send the busted one back. (Though they could have.)</p>

<p>I wish that all manufacturer’s stood by their stuff with the same kind of no-hassle experience Amex, Costco, LL Bean and Land’s End do.</p>

<p>Just a caveat - Amex Green card does not have the best level of protection. Mine would not cover for a lost item. This was a few years ago. At one time I think it did, but now I think you must have gold or platinum for coverage of lost, as opposed to stolen items. Additionally, I did not find the customer service to be so great during my calls on that matter, although I previously had liked the customer service in general. I don’t mean that the service was not great because it was not resolved in my favor. I mean that my requests for information and clarification were not met with the level of concern and courtesy that I had up to that time expected.</p>
