best CUNY schools for a transfer student interested in history?

to give a bit of background: my senior year of high school I was set on going to college in NYC, but the college i chose was an extremely expensive private school. I had my heart set on it and even though I received a 20k scholarship, I received minimal money from fafsa and couldn’t afford it. I naively only applied to a couple of colleges, the one aforementioned & St Joseph’s College on Long Island which I really had no interest in whatsoever. In a last ditch effort I applied late to SUNY New Paltz, was accepted, and just began here this Fall. The campus is alright, the academics are good, but I’m not happy with my decision & the distance from home(I live on Long Island) is a little too much for me.

I’m only in my freshman year and only began classes a couple weeks ago but I am almost sure I want to transfer. I am planning on sticking it out for the Fall & Spring semesters and hopefully transferring to a CUNY school in Fall of 2016.

I know it’s a bit early to be looking but I’ve been reading a lot of transfer application deadlines for next Fall are in the winter and I want to be prepared.

I was a slightly above average student in high school with a 3.2 average. I took plenty of AP’s & scored a 1690 on my SAT(1120 CR & math)

I have no grades in college yet but I’ve set my mind to being more devoted to my studies(I never really tried in high school). My minimum goal is a 3.5 gpa. I’ve joined my college’s history club thus far & the club & activities fair will be soon where I’ll be signing up for community service activities and academic clubs.

I have not declared a major yet but I want to do something in the history field.

I have also decided to go to school in Manhattan I will have to attend a CUNY school based on financial reasons. I am more familiar with SUNY schools than CUNY ones so I don’t know much about which are the best and which are not. It would mean a lot if anyone could recommend a few that are known for their history programs or at least have a decently large population of students studying history.

I apologize for this insanely long post! Any help would be amazing! Thank you!

Research “The City College of New York”. It is on Convent Avenue in Manhattan and has an an excellent History Department.

Hunter College and Baruch also have history programs. I know a number of students at Hunter and they like the college.
