Best Decade for Music: 60's, 70's, 80's, 90's or 00's?

My friend and I argue this all the time. His vote is 60s Brit pop which I do love and with older bros, the music I grew up listening to. But I say 70s not because of the music per se, but it was my easy breezy childhood summer days that that music evokes. My H always says that everyone’s nostalgia for the good ol’ days depends on when they had the least amount of stress and they were carefree. So bring on Elton, Todd Rundgren and the Ziggy Stardust memories :slight_smile:

Ps Todd Rundgren is the artist in residence professor this year at Notre Dame {{faints}}

80s rocks!

Muh muh muh my Sharona!

My Sharona was a hit in 1979. The Knack barely made a dent in the 80s.

Musical movements link up very poorly with calendar decades, and and different arcs of different types of popular music don’t necessarily link up with one another so well. There is one thing, however, that roughly matches up with calendar decades: music promotion. The 1960s were dominated by AM radio, the 1970s by FM radio, and the 1980s by MTV. I’m not sure what was happening in the 1990s, but internet file-sharing took over in the 2000s, to be replaced by streaming in the 2010s.

For me, it’s either 90s alternative or [30s/40s big band.](Classic 1930s Big Band Swing Music For Ballroom Dancing @Pax41 - YouTube)

50s/60s/70s music was the worst, IMO.
