At your school, what are the best department(s)? Why?

The science department is god, mostly because of one amazing teacher, although there aren’t as many course options as I would like (No AP Chem or physics). Upper level English and social studie are good too.

Really its just our math and foreign language departments that aren’t good.

Math department is really good. I guess I just had pretty good teachers . Science is above average, English is inconsistent from teacher to teacher.
Foreign language is a huge joke. We watch movies maybe once every 2 weeks and spend at least half an hour translating 5 sentences for our bell ringers. Then again, it might vary between teachers.

English and History departments are really good. Mostly, the departments are pretty equal-there’s no really bad departments, though the Italian classes are a bit of a joke as compared to the other two languages (Latin and Spanish).

i would say my school’s science department is really good. after that there’s a 3-way tie between foreign languages, english, and math, which are also pretty good.

Hmmm. It’s really hard to say because if you’re not an AP kid, none of them are THAT great (and you can’t really go by just AP classes because a majority of kids don’t take honors and AP classes.)

I can definitely tell you the worst though: Foreign Languages. Only 20% passed the AP Spanish exam (they only offer one AP exam, and that’s Spanish Language) the year before last, and we only offer two languages. French IV Honors is combined with French III, and there’s only one French instructor. My native Spanish-speaking teacher for Spanish II forgot how to do Usted and Ustedes commands. No honors classes either (except French IV honors). Need I say more?

The best though, from my own experience, was science; my AP Bio and AP Chem teachers were awesome. Honors Chem was honestly a joke (sewing a “mole” as part of the “honors” curriculum- what a waste of time) and Honors Physics didn’t require any higher thinking though, so eh.

I think the best department is the overall AP department (there isn’t one though.) :P

Probably English, through Social Studies and Math are good, too. We have enough English teachers that every one only has to teach 2-3 classes so you know they’re really devoted to you. Also, they’re just really cool people in general.

IN my school it really differs from teacher to teacher.

Science and Social Studies departments are good at my school. But none of the other departments are that bad. In the math department, the highest level of math for each grade is good, and the lower courses are just ok.

Hmm…I think English, Foreign Language, and Math here.
History is either way too difficult (like, unnecessarily) or the teacher is a complete joke. Science is just full of awful, awful teachers.

history and english by far. the other ones suck. the average score for APUSH last year was a 4, for Physics it was a 1.

definitely english. our history department is subpar (well, at least my teacher)

Math. we get way too many USAMO qualifiers…

There’s really no clear leader. However, each department has its share of good teachers.

Definitely the fine arts program- our band and choir are nationally ranked and are both invited to go play at Carnegie Hall in New York next year (yaay field trip!). Our AP art kids are freakin’ amazing, some of the stuff they create is simply unbelievable.

Our English department is good too, if only because of one brilliant teacher, but she might retire before I get to have her. :(

Distance learning… lol all of our “Departments” are like 1 person.
