Best Department to work in at a University?

Bit of an odd question but let me explain.

I have recently recieved an Graduate Assistantship from the Univ of Tampa which requires me to work in any department at the University id like. It could be the Finance dept., Admissions dept or whatever…

Just want to know if anybody knows anyone who has worked at a University office before and has any advice on what would be the most enjoyable department to work in? (im only working there cos they pay for my tuiton!

All suggestions and advice welcome!

Thanks

It honestly depends on what you enjoy. If you like working with people, something like admissions may be better than something like a budget office. Look at the different departments at your particular school, see what positions are offered, and then make an informed decision.

Respect!! Thanks a lot!

Personally I’d choose admissions - I’ve always wanted to do a stint as an admissions officer  I’ve worked in the admissions office before as an undergraduate, as well as continuing education. Continuing Ed was boring, but admissions was cool. I did tours as well as mundane clerical tasks, but the clerical tasks involved applications so I got to see who was coming into my undergrad. It also helped me have really pointed advice for applicants.

If you have the option to work in an academic department, that would probably be your best bet, particularly if it is somehow related to your topic of study. If you can’t work on something related to your career and are just working a student hourly job, positions with advising groups might be fun. You would get to interact with people and not just databases.

Work in a department that is related to your academic interest(s). This would be a valuable learning experience (putting theory into practice).
