I know Pitt has one of the best Philosophy departments in the *world/i. Since I plan on majoring in philosophy, Pitt is at the top of my list. What are Pitt’s other departments that are noteworthy?

Also, does the university adequately focus on its undergrads, or is all attention given to research and grad work?

In many rankings, Pitt’s philosophy program is second, only behind Yale.

Other top programs:

Business, Chemistry, Economics, Engineeing, English, History, History and Philosophy of Science, Physics, Political Science, Psychology, and Physiology

Pitt gives much attention to undergrad students. Most classes in Arts & Sciences are capped at a maximum of 50 students, many classes are capped at around 25-30. And large classes have recitations of small groups. Professors are known to be very accesible.

I don’t know about the math department, it might be great. But I must say that there seems to be a dearth of good professors at the lower levels (calc, linear algebra, diff eq). Also, the TA’s I am familiar with have often had very heavy accents and might be difficult to understand until you get acclimated to the sound.
