I’ve been wanting to do one of those ancestry tests for a while but am not sure which kit offers the best balance of accurary and data privacy. Any suggestions?
A lot depends on what you want to know. Health? Ethnicity? Relatives?
I think you have to take both “accuracy” and privacy with a grain of salt. I did 23andme and it has resulted in connecting me with a third cousin who lives near me – and we are now socializing a bit, which is nice. The health data is fun to look at, but the science just isn’t there to draw very broad conclusions from most of the information. And the ancient ancestry stuff is similarly iffy – although in my case, very consistent with what I know about my own ancestry. But that depends on the database they are working with.
And privacy? Yes, its there superficially but who knows for the future. That may be more of a concern for youngsters than old folks.
