best dorm in the choates cluster?

which is the best non substance and smoking free dorm in the choates?

are all the freshmen dorms substance free?

i am looking for a dorm with bigger rooms etc… in the choate, but i do no want the dorm to be substance free… i dont mind about smoking, but prefer non smoking

No one really smokes inside and all the choates are pretty much the same…

i thought i heard 2 dorms were undergoing renovation in the choate cluster? so those are probably nicer ?

I beleive that all of the dorms are now smoke free. The renovation of choates is happening over the summer. will most likely include, painting carpeting and new furniture.

Choates floor plan

I think Little just got renovated. They have ethernet phones too!

Everyone in the Choates gets those phones.

hey which other dorms get those ethernet phones…

No dorm in the Choates is really nicer than the other.

I’m working on first year housing right now. :)

cool thanks… hopefully i get a good dorm… but really what i care more about is getting a good roommate… do u think its better to be in an all freshmen dorm the first year? i think it would be better for me to get to know more people but i dont know… and i like the choates better than the rivers

Well at this point hopefully you turned in your application. I’m working on assigning roommates right now, and if you haven’t turned it in you are missing out on getting the best possible match!

I was in mixed-class housing, and I preferred it, but that’s because I’m not much for the fluffy, “community” stuff. I preferred just doing my own thing and meeting people in clubs and activities. But if you like doing things in big groups as a floor, first year is the way to go.

yea i def turned it in…long time ago…before the deadline… yea i think i want to get to know the 09 pretty well etc… but if that means being in the rivers haha i dont know if it is worth it cause it is pretty far… yea i am an international student so my main concern was that i wanted to get an american so that i can practice my english etc.i am sure that u must work hard doing the matches… that looks like kinda hard. thanks. j

hi do you know when they mail out your room assignments etc? thanks. j

They are mailed out in August

are most 09s placed in freshman dorms? is this done randomly or according to requests?

It’s about half and half. We try to honor requests, but if you didn’t specify it is random.

Would the same go for roommates in terms of trying to honor requests?

Yeah, although roommate requests are a bit trickier. A lot of factors come into play there.

You mean like whether what we filled out on our forms indicated a match? Or what kind of factors. Sorry, I know I’ll find out soon enough, but I’m impatient/curious.

Is the housing office sending out the assignments the first week of august or just generally the beginning of august
