Out of Georgia Tech, UIUC, University of Michigan Ann Arbor, Purdue, and Carnegie Mellon, which would be the best university to go to that has a good student body, good ECE program, but also has some life in it (i.e. fun city, parties, etc), as well as good housing and food, etc?

I would choose University of Michigan. After that, Georgia Tech.

Out of that list, only GT (Atlanta) and CMU (Pittsburgh) are in big cities.

As far as Michigan, Ann Arbor has good parties and you are not far from Detroit.

I would go with Michigan. At least you get a chance to attend the football games at the “Big House”.

if it were me, i’d pick Michigan

bump anyone else? I’m kinda leaning towards GATech, because of the nice climate as well as the city of Atlanta

Yes, Georgia Tech, nice climate and 450-acre campus in the Midtown of Atlanta.

GaTech! Though, I’m a little bias, hehe.

If you do go, here are some pointers:
West Campus has the better dining hall, but East Campus is near all of the resaurants, Tech Square, etc. Also, West Campus has bigger dorms (made for the olympic athletes for when the games were here in 1996), but East Campus is near all the classes, social events, etc.

Another vote for GT. Lots of stuff to do in Atlanta.

runningcircles, what are you studying at GT?

I vote for CMU. It has top notch ECE program, as well as the tepper school of business. It probably has lots of other decent programs that I dont know about.

Yea, Georgia Tech is attracting me right now, but I’ve heard horror stories about housing and roommates (whiners or weirdos).

That’s possible no matter where you go. Better get used to it.

I’m studying ECE. These weedouts are killing me, but I’m enjoying it here.

Sometimes, that can happen. Don’t worry about housing, though… it’s actually nice here. I wish I could paint the wall a different color, but it’s no biggie.

Currently, I’m in a quad and there’s enough room. In fact, we have a futon, a PA system, several game consoles, two fridges, etc. and the door is always open (we’re fairly social).

Also, if you apply and get in, you can go online, meet people on the fora set up for people accepted to GT, and chat with other potential classmates. From there, you can get their name and GT ID, and request to room with them (that’s what I did). That way, you don’t have to worry about posting “conflicting roomate stories” on here.

Freshman huh?

CMU.It has a very good ECE program. Not that Rankings should be sole criteria for joining a school, nonetheless if it helps, ECE program is ranked 3 in the 2007 US News ranking. http://www.cmu.edu/clips/rankingsroundup.pdf
Graduates are recruited by top companies.

GT! haha, I lucked out with housing. Parties and such shouldn’t be a problem if your looking to pledge a fraternity, then you’re golden. If not, you’re gonna know people who are in them and you’re still well off.

What’s ECE? Electrical Computer Engineering?

Electrical and Computer Engineering
