Best electronic means of sending/receiving money

My D uses Venmo, S uses PayPal but I have read that Zelle and Cash are popular. Just wondering what folks here think and are using. Also interested in any fees, pros, cons, surprises. So far I use currency, checks and credit cards and PayPal when required.

If you mean for my kids, I just transfer money to their bank accounts. There is a one time process to set up,involving verifying transfers of tiny amounts of money but after that which I did years and years ago I just transfer with a click on my online account. I believe you can do this from any bank to any bank. Everybody else I just send a check thru Chase. I haven’t written a check in years.

I write quite a few checks and am curious anout these various services. Am very interested to learn folks’ experiences.

I can’t imagine writing a check ever again. There’s just no need for anything I buy and it’s so much easier to keep track when Chase sends the check directly. After 90 days if it’s not cashed your money goes back in your account. I’m always shocked when people tell me they are writing ch3cks in any regular basis. I do use Zella though if the person I’m sending to tells me they prefer that.

For kids, we have accounts for them at our bank and just transfer funds in if and when needed online. They access the money through debit cards.

For friends, we use PayPal. There is no transaction fee if the payment is through our linked bank account.

I don’t have a smartphone so I can no longer use Venmo. (I used to be able to do it on my computer but the company no longer provides that option.) I use PayPal sometimes. I also make bank-to-bank transfers.

PayPal is the best, Zelle is good for quick account to account transfers. The only checks I write are to the PTA or to handymen. I still use personal bank checks with 19__ at the top right lol, that’s how few checks I write.

I use Zellle now. It is easier and faster than the old bank-to-bank transfers. I only use checks when I want a slow pay

Our bank has a system for electronic transfer. Easy as anything and no fees.

If paying cash, I use Apple Cash. I can do that from my texting app. Instead of sending text, I send money. Everything else, I use my bank to send a check. I still write checks from time to time.

I use Venmo for things like reimbursing a friend who paid for event tickets or getting reimbursed when I paid. I wish more of my friends used it. I pay bills directly through my bank account. I also do account to account transfers to put money into my kid’s accounts. None of these options have fees associated with them or at least they don’t the way I use them. A friend of mine wanted me to sign-up for Zelle to pay her for something because she thought Venmo had fees for transferring money out of Venmo to your bank account. Well they do if you want to do an instant transfer but otherwise it’s free.

Happykid’s new credit union uses Person 2 Person to move money to accounts at other institutions.

Lawn care guy needs a check. Birthday and other gifts to relatives are by a check with a card. A few repairmen also have been paid at the time of service by check- have the written proof. Otherwise have basically shifted to some autopay and other online means. And any payments- such as local or federal governments- where there is a fee involved for using a credit card et al. It is no wonder the USPS is losing money when we now buy so few stamps.

Venmo here.

Yes, I use checks with or for gifts for occasions. I also use checks for our nonprofit bills and to make donations to charities. To pay my CCard bills, I call and pay with my checking acct. Most of the utilities are on autopay.

I’ve read that these other forms of electronic payments are growing in popularity so I remain curious about them. Thanks for any experiences and insights, good & bad experiences.

I’m bookmarking this thread…so sick of Bank of America!

Venmo or direct transfer into their credit union accounts. I think the CU allows Zelle, but since we are still on their acts and we are at the CU, I’ve never used it.

Have to write an occasional check because some handyfolk would not take cards upon substantial completion (nor would they wait for Chase to mail them a check).

Well, the car dealership wants a check for the balance on new car—will only allow us to charge a maximum of $5k! Don’t really want to pay in cash and personal check is perfectly convenient.

Venmo or Paypal. I rarely write a check now.
