My apologies if this duplicates another thread. Nothing came up in my searches.

My son, a high school junior, has written a 1000 word essay on a current economic topic. He has shown it to teachers and has received favorable reviews. It is hard for me to be objective about this, since he is my son, but the essay appears to be very good. The essay incorporates original thinking and personal anecdotes in addition to the usual sources supporting the main argument.

I would appreciate hearing about any and all essay contests where a high school student might submit an essay in hopes of winning an award. Better yet, if there are any publications that include high school essays, I would love to know about those.

My son wants to write for a student publication wherever he goes to college. An essay award would help convince the college admissions people that he is a capable writer.

Thank you.
