Best gifts for housebound senior relatives

For the seniors in my life that can’t or won’t decorate for Christmas, I have been sending holiday centerpieces or wreaths. The kids around here sell them as fundraisers but you can also order them from LL Bean.

My former FIL either found fault with or did not acknowledge every gift I gave him and former MIL (while I was still married to their son). Ham from fancy vendor: too salty. Flowers: ugly. He did not acknowledge the candy from his favorite candy company, the magazine subscriptions, and the food that I prepared and sent with ex-H, after giving much thought to his likes, dislikes, dental concerns, dietary concerns, etc. It was disheartening.

Thank you. Such creative and thoughtful ideas! I’ll be using these for parents, in-laws and few others.

My MIL writes a lot of letters and seems to appreciate the postage stamps we send with birthday cards. I try to find ones that have interesting history etc. Examples:

@deega123 Costco (online) has greenery (candle centerpieces, wreathers, etc.) as does Amazon. Both deliver within a few days of ordering. The recipients said they were nice quality.

Edited to add: Site currently does not have live greens, but by Thanksgiving they will.

The above note about greenery reminded me— during the holidays I see lots of seniors who say they cannot get up in the attic to pull down decorations. Or they can’t get out to get a wreath, etc.

You could send a fresh wreath and hanger to brighten up the door. If unable to go yourself, you could send and pay for a helper to assist your family member in decorating a bit for the holidays.

Those small table top live trees are nice. Rosemary trees are fragrant and look nice with some string lights. A nice big poinsettia. A large white orchid plant looks nice during the holidays and even after.

Amaryllis bulbs are awesome. And so are paperwhites.
