Best Holiday Desserts?

Do any of you have any fantastic holiday dessert recipes or famous family concoctions?

A friend of mine sent me hers and says it can’t be topped:

Enjoy :D

Thanks for the treat! In the spirit of giving, I thought I would share a little insight into someone else’s warm family traditions:

[Joan Crawford Christmas - YouTube](<a href=“Joan Crawford Christmas - YouTube”>Joan Crawford Christmas - YouTube)!

^^^^LOL, those poor kids were so obviously reading their responses off of a script.

When she said they normally “dawdle” over their meals, I couldn’t help but think of the rare steak scenes from the movie Mommie Dearest." Yikes.

And “i make the children EARN their presents”
(scrubbing the bathrooms at 3: in the morning)

musica…Did I hear Joan Crawford say she makes her kids give away their favorite toy? That’s how she teaches the value of giving? And once they open their presents, they have to “earn” them back? Her son still didn’t have all his birthday presents from Oct., because he hadn’t “earned” them.

I’m hosting the dessert portion of our progressive dinner tomorrow night. Here’s my menu:

Buche de Noel-a chocolate flourless cake, that’s rolled and frosted to look like a log. It will be garnished with meringue mushrooms.

Creme Brulee-made with Bailey’s Irish Cream

Poached Orange Pears-topped with mascarpone cheese and toasted almonds

All recipes came from one of my other favorite web sites, [Allrecipes.com - recipes, menus, meal ideas, food, and cooking tips.](http://www.allrecipes.com)

^^^I’ll have the creme brulee, please. :)

Toledo, make sure to sample the Baileys several times (as in the first recipe of the thread) to be sure it is fresh. :D

Here’s what I traditional have:
Buche de Noel (same as toledo)
Lemon & raspberry trifle
platters of Christmas cookies

Can’t sample too much of the Bailey’s, as I need to use a torch on that creme brulee.

And I won’t be making any Pillsbury rolls.

^^^^^^^^groan…

:D

Oh, Joan - you were such a nutjob. Am I misremembering, or didn’t Ma Ingalls once make Laura give away her doll - her only toy - when a friend admired it? Caroline Ingalls and Joan Crawford - kindred spirits. Who’d have thought?

I like this Youtube video featuring Joan’s nemesis, Bette Davis: [Bette Davis promoting the sale of war bonds - YouTube](http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=C8H00RPk948) In it Bette plays a mom who gives her kids war bonds for Christmas, even though she could afford to buy both gifts and bonds, because it would be wrong to use scarce resources that could otherwise go toward the war effort. Unlike Joan, Bette didn’t exploit her own kids. Even though it’s propaganda, the clip espouses some pretty tough parenting. Bette absolutely sells it, too!

Actual holiday dessert: this tiramisu trifle from Rachael Ray is easy and still special enough for Christmas.
frazzled, yes, Ma Ingalls did – though Laura was about 10 at the time and the guest was a toddler. Ma also apologized later when she realized how distraught Laura was. Hard to imagine Joan doing that.

Don’t ask me to remember details about something that happened today…

Wow, I read the Little House books about ten times each AT LEAST, yet I had completely forgotten about the doll episode.
