Best housing option??

Hi everyone! I am going to be a freshman at UIUC next year, and I am still trying to decide on my housing. I am currently an undecided engineering major, but am planning to change that to biomedical engineering asap. Is it a better idea to live in ISR or Ikenberry? I know ISR is closer to the engineering quad, but as a freshman, there’ll also be a lot of required classes I’ll probably have to take on the main quad (such as English).

Also, I play the violin, and even though neither ISR or Ikenberry has music practice rooms, I was told I could walk to the music building if I wanted to practice. Which dorm would be closer to the music building?

Thanks in advance

ISR, if you can get into it, is situated better (Close to the Main and Engineering Quads, the Music Building and Krannert), but available rooms are usually snapped up by upperclassmen who can apply before freshman. There are usually very few to no rooms available once freshman housing apps are considered. Have you considered Certified Private housing? Newman Hall’s location is much closer (relatively speaking) to the main quad, engineering, and Music Bldg/Krannert than Ikenberry. Inquire if there’s still rooms available. It is slightly more expensive, but the dorms are suite-style with either single, or double bedrooms sharing a common room that opens to the hall. I mention Newman because it closest to the main quad, but there are other CPH choices. You should consider/visit them as potential housing options, if you have not already done so.
