Best LAC for Physics in New England/New York with Merit

Daughter is looking into a physics major. We live in Western Ma and she would like to stay within 2-3 hours from home.

We don’t qualify for any FInancial Aid so are looking for schools with merit. We can pay about $40,000 a year but many schools seem to be in the $60,000 zone. Any suggestions? Currently she has a 4.0 unweighted and has not taken any standardized tests yet. (Sophomore) Plays flute, piano and is captain of her horseback riding team if that makes any difference.

Rochester. WPI. RPI. Holy Cross. BU NU UMass Amherst. UConn (not sure on merit) Trinity (ct) NYU.

Not sure but perhaps Smith Mt Holyoke

Rochester might be tough to hit $40k as will Holy Cross (very limited merit).

How about Clark University in Worcester?

Mt Holyoke has the Trustee Scholarship with is full tuition for four years, The only give out 11 each year. Also they offer a 25K scholarship. I know nothing about riding but Mt Holyoke seems to have quite a few equestrians there (they have a stable with 40 horses). I believe Union College gives merit and would be close. Bennington as well.

Clark University is smaller than many LACs (2,200 undergrads), but it has a small Phd program in physics. They also have an interesting 5 year program where you can get a master’s tuition free. It offers some full scholarships and some $20,000 merit scholarships

Wheaton (in Norton, MA) offers up to $25K in merit.

Clarkson University should be on your list.

Also look at some SUNYs perhaps?

Union College in Schenectady, NY. These are the merit scholarships they offer:

Great suggestions everyone! Thank you so much- I’m making my list now!

The NPC for RPI includes a merit estimate, though I’m not sure how accurate it is.

Thank you, I will! What about Brandeis? And if I do larger public schools, how about UNH and UVM?
