Best laptop to buy for a commerce student?

I’ll be doing a BCom program in Canada, and I need to buy a laptop.

I will have mostly basic usage: Internet browsing, listening to music, streaming tv shows/movies and then using various micrsoft applications.
I want to buy a laptop that will be good for at least 3-4 years (Not sure if this an unrealistic expectation, but frustrated with my current laptop that has had parts dying within 18 months)

Also, Is buying laptops cheaper in Canada like it is in the US?

And one more thing,
Being an international student, I’ll definitely be using skype often

Look for something that is not too big and heavy (trust me, you will NOT want to be walking around campus for 4 years with a bulky laptop on your back). Try some of those ultrabooks. I have an asus zenbook which is light, slim and works very well.
Since you will not be using CPU intensive programs, you don’t really need a expensive computer with loads of RAM and/or core i7. You can go for the cheaper models of good brands.

You should look at the Microsoft Surface…it may not be able to use heavy desktop software but for your necessities it should be enough and it comes with office free
