Best Major For A Career In Purchasing?

So I’ve been considering changing my major from industrial engineering to something in business. I’ve been researching and talking to some of the advisors and department chairs at my school to get some ideas. While talking to the accounting chair she said that it sounded to her like I would like a career in purchasing. I tried to ask her more about the field, but she said she didn’t have much experience with it. So I’ve been researching it on my own and it looks pretty interesting to me. I just don’t know which business major it would be assosciated with. I think it may be marketing, but I’m not sure. So my question is which business major would go well towards a career in purchasing? For example purchasing managers, buyers, and purchasing agents.

what the **** is purchasing? I mean the career field, not the word.

“Purchasing managers, buyers, and purchasing agents buy a vast array of farm products, durable and nondurable goods, and services for companies and institutions. They attempt to get the best deal for their company—the highest quality goods and services at the lowest possible cost.”

The whole description is at [Purchasing Managers, Buyers, and Purchasing Agents](http://www.bls.gov/oco/ocos023.htm) It may be called something else.

On the same link you’ve just cited – it states the degree(s) and major(s) that are ideal for that career.
It might have helped to read more than two lines.

I’ll let you locate it yourself.

I know it says that. I’m asking what business major would go towards it well. I mean the concentrations like accounting, marketing, finance, MIS, ect…

Probably accounting. To be honest it sounds about as exciting as accounting.

Probably so DCHurricane. haha. I don’t mind boring though.

I agree. try accounting.

that actually sounds like a half way decent career
