Best major to study numerical computing

I want a carrer in scientific computing/numerical computing. I was wondering what the best major is for that. Before everyone says CS I feel that would be insufficient because most cs majors don’t learn numerical analysis let alone differential equations.

Double major in math and CS.

However, this may be hard to do if your CC does not have courses that articulate to all of the lower division CS courses at the UC or CSU that you intend to transfer to. This problem may mean that you have to take lower division CS courses after transfer to “catch up”, which can make your schedule too crowded to double major.

If a double major is not feasable, either do math with selected upper division CS courses or minor, or CS with selected upper division math courses or minor.

I see, are there many career opportunities for numerical computing? Promoters of computational science say yes, however engineering companies seem to want engineers.

Applied Math or Math/CS.

UCSD and UCLA both offer Math/CS majors or concentrations.

I think Applied Math is offered most everywhere.

Yep, UCSD has a joint Math-CS major:
